If you’ve ever dreamt of rocking the runway or posing in a photo studio – you’ve probably spent some time wondering how to become a teen model. It’s not a secret and it’s not impossible. With a little research, a bit of practice and a lot of drive and determination, you can start on a path into the modeling industry no matter where you live. Here are a few tips for new models:

1. Discover Your Unique
Look Embrace what makes you unique. Models come in all shapes, sizes, and styles and the industry craves diversity and talent with an it factor. Look in the mirror and asses your features to figure out what sets you apart from the crowd. It could be your piercing blue eyes, killer cheekbones, or infectious smile – owning your individuality is key to standing out and staying confident in the competitive world of modeling.

2. Have The Right Images

Someone who is just starting out and wondering how to become a model won’t have a portfolio of images right away. Instead focus on getting great digitals or take advantage of test shoots with photographers. ALWAYS do your research before working with anyone in the industry to make sure they are reputable and that you both understand what images you are looking for and what each person is allowed to use them for. If you are under 18, have a parent or guardian help vet opportunities so you can make sure you are safely building a collection of images to use for agency submissions. A portfolio is going to be something like a model’s resume that will show work you have booked over the years. For any photoshoots that you land, keep a collection of those images so you can work to build a portfolio.

3. Network Like a Pro

Who you know can be almost as important as what you know. Attend industry events, fashion shows, and open casting calls to network with industry insiders and other aspiring models. Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there and strike up conversations with photographers, stylists, and agents. Building strong relationships and making positive impressions can open doors to new opportunities and collaborations down the line.

4. Get Your Glow On
Modeling isn’t just about looking good in front of the camera. It’s also about feeling good from the inside out. Maintain a balanced diet, stay hydrated, and incorporate regular exercise into your routine to keep your body in shape and your energy levels high. A healthy lifestyle not only enhances your physical appearance but also boosts your confidence and energy levels, both of which are essential attributes for a successful modeling career.

5. Practice Make Progress
While natural talent and charisma are essential, honing your modeling skills through professional training can give you a competitive edge in the industry. Consider enrolling in reputable modeling and acting schools like Barbizon, where you will receive hands-on experience and expert guidance from industry professionals. Make sure you ask about any graduate support services that the modeling and acting center provides. Often you can receive access to industry pro networking events, invitation only auditions, industry competitions, notifications of job opportunities and more.

And just like that, you’re on your way to learning how to become a teen model. Research everything, pursue legitimate opportunities and build a repertoire of experience. Remember, the modeling world is always evolving, and so should you.
